On behalf of the leadership of Cub Scout Pack 313, Welcome to our parent info section. Here we hope to answer many of the questions you may have prior to our signup night on September 4th at 7PM.
Why join Cub Scouting? Scouting is the best youth organization in the country for helping boys grow into responsible young adults. Based on core values such as respect, compassion and honesty the program teaches the boys life skills while having fun.
What will my son be doing? Cub Scouts offer a great range of opportunities to a boy. We do fun stuff like camping, fishing, hiking, playing sports, build and race pinewood derby cars, as well as service projects, character building and more. The program is chalked full of fun and educational things to do.
What do parents/families get out of the program? Cub Scouting is a family affair. There are plenty of opportunities for you to participate from helping him work through his handbook, to participating in family campouts and everything in between. The program is designed in such a way that the major benefit is time spent with your son. You will also get to witness first hand the changes your son will go through as he works through the program. It is awesome to see boys become more outgoing, confident, kinder and self reliant. You will have ample opportunity to be even more proud of your son than you are now.
What does it cost? Scouting is the most affordable program going. Our pack charges $10 a month in dues to defray the cost to run the pack and put on a quality program. We collect these dues September through May. There is also a yearly BSA membership fee of $24 due in October. There are occasional activities that cost extra such as family campouts, summer camps, etc. The scout uniform is the other cost associated with joining the pack.
Are there programs to help with the cost? Yes. There are multiple programs aimed at helping families join or stay in Scouting. We don't want a boy to miss out on the Scouting experience because of money. Please contact a leader for program details.
My son plays sports and may not be able to make every meeting, Can we still join? Absolutely. We would like every scout to be at every event but we realize that everyone's schedule is different. We will work with you and your son so that you can participate in Scouts and not miss out on other programs. As a bonus, the Cub Scouts have a beltloop program where the boys can earn awards in Scouts for playing sports.
Where and when do you meet? We meet weekly on Tuesday evenings at 7PM at Barbee Memorial Presbyterian Church.(across from the high school)
How do we join? Please come to our Cub Scout signup night fill out an application and let the journey begin.
